2014 kicks off in Jönköping, pictures

While the home page has taken a break from updates over the last couple of months, the club hasn’t so it’s about time the homepage got back in action!

2014 really kicked off down in Jönköping where AFL Sweden had their AGM, held trials for the national team, and hosted an indoor tournament.

First game of the season, and ANZAC celebrations.

On Saturday (27th of April) it’s finally time for the first game of the season, and ANZAC celebrations!

The activities will take place on the back pitch of Årstafältet where we start of with a game
against Norrtälje Dockers at 14:00 (Årsta players should be there by 13:00!). Our game is followed by a game, played at 16:00, between Bromma Vikings and Södermalm Blues.

Solna Axemen will be handling the BBQ, and the umpiring for both games, so all the Stockholm teams will be present.

Come on down for a good day out with footy, good BBQ, and good people!

Go Årsta!

Start of the season training times!

It’s spring time and it’s time to get out in the fresh air and kick some footy!
To make sure we get enough people for each training session Solna has been kind enough to let us train with them at Rålambshovsparken (Wednesdays 18:30), so the first few training opportunities will be together with them.

The training sessions will allow new and old players to get a good feel of the ball and the game, so there’s no need to feel that you’re not experienced enough to attend – everyone is welcome!

Hope to see many of you on Wednesday, even though it’s short notice!

Ted Richards in the All Australian team

A big congratulations to Ted Richards for making the AFL’s 2012 All Australian team for the first time, selected at Centre Half Back.

Ted is the brother of Jake Richards, who is one of our good mates, but unfortunately a dangerous player for opposing SAFF team, the Solna Axemen.

Ted Richards’ stellar season has included a number of scalps against some of the competition’s leading forwards, including a dominant performance in the team’s recent Qualifying Final win over Adelaide a fortnight ago.

Round 10 vs Solna

This Saturday we’re playing Solna at the Årsta SwanPond (Årstafältet) at 11:30. Players get there 10:30 latest so we can warm-up together.

Last week numbers were disappointing, so let’s all make a real effort to get along and support the club. We’ve only 2 regular season matches left and I know plenty of us will be missing footy once it’s done for the year.

It’s also our BBQ this weekend, so bring friends along & let’s have a few frothies after the game.

Players selected from the Stockholm league are: Rickard Barrfelt; Mats Sundin (Årsta’s very own); Natis Johansson; Christian Nilsson and Niklas Jonsson.
Congratulations to all to players selected for committing yourselves to the tournament and to get selected among some seriously good players.

2012 Summer break

Now that the Rest of Sweden vs the Malmö Giants match has now been played in Göteborg, the Stockholm league’s summer break starts. Unfortunately the Malmö guys won a tight match 9.5.59 to 8.9.57, with Årsta Swans Rob and Jonas featuring among the goal kickers. Reports have it the Giants got up with the last kick of the day win. See match details here.

During this summer period, the players will naturally be taking good care of themselves – eating well, training hard and minimising alcohol consumption. Naturally.

Årsta’s first game after the break is a Friday evening match against Solna at Årstafältet on the 3rd of August, however the week before we have goal umpire duties that we need to fulfil. See the fixture here.

Do some recruiting over the summer and make sure you’re on the Årsta Facebook group to get updates on training times and locations.
