Half the season done..

We have just returned from summer vacation.
Half of the season is behind us.
Our playing as a team has become better and better, unfortunately that has not translated to the scoreboard.
We have lost the first five games of the season and we have 3 more before the semifinal (two scheduled and the season opener that we postponed)

We played Södermalm Blues on the weekend (Aug 25)
Årsta fired on all cylinders and took charge of the game giving us a nice lead at the end of the first quarter.
The following two quarters Södermalm fought back good, slowly gaining on us and the third quarter finnished with a one point difference between the teams.
The last quarter was a stand off
Who could muster a little bit more than the opponent?
Finally we managed to get a bit of a lead and when the final siren sounded the final score was

Årsta 14.12 (96)
Söder 12.10 (82)

We hope that this will give us the strength, selfesteem and will to fight to end the season with a few more wins.
We will go to Norrtälje to play the Dockers this coming saturday (Sept 1) – let’s hope we can put a dent i their successfull season

If you find yourself in Norrtälje on saturday, come down and cheer us on!

All for one, All for Årsta!!

Swans back in action this weekend

After bye (rain) comes game time (sunshine) as the old saying goes!

After a bye weekend for the Swans, where some squad members has had the chance to recuperate from minor knocks, and some players participated in the Swedish Elks vs. Stockholm Dynamite game, it’s finally footy time again!

This Friday will see the Swans go head to head with Södermalm blues at the JCG, in what promises to be a thrilling clash between a young and promising Swans squad and an established Söder squad. The Swans will prepare throughly with training on Tuesday, and a light session on Thursday.

Ball up is 18:30 (Friday) at the JCG, come down and support the Swans!

First game of the season, and ANZAC celebrations.

On Saturday (27th of April) it’s finally time for the first game of the season, and ANZAC celebrations!

The activities will take place on the back pitch of Årstafältet where we start of with a game
against Norrtälje Dockers at 14:00 (Årsta players should be there by 13:00!). Our game is followed by a game, played at 16:00, between Bromma Vikings and Södermalm Blues.

Solna Axemen will be handling the BBQ, and the umpiring for both games, so all the Stockholm teams will be present.

Come on down for a good day out with footy, good BBQ, and good people!

Go Årsta!

First match this Saturday

As ANZAC Day arrives each year in Stockholm, the days are growing longer and the weather has started warming up – all in all, you know it’s time for Aussie Rules to start again in Stockholm!

This Saturday is the season opening double-header ANZAC clash between Södermalm and Årsta, with the first bounce at 12:00 11:30. The Last Post will be played before the match as we honour and remember all those who served and died in military operations for their countries.

Årsta players, please arrive at the ground at 10:30 to help setup the field, prepare the BBQ and get warmed up. Directions to the ground here. We are hosting the BBQ after the match, so hang around, have a burger and watch the 2nd match – Solna vs Bromma.

Bring your friends and family down and enjoy a great day out!

Photos from training with Brett Kirk

The photos from training with Brett Kirk on the 24th of May are developed. Our photographer was down at training armed only with his phone’s camera to capture the session.

Brett’s presence meant that all four Stockholm teams were present, allowing us to do some great, but different drills with the 35 guys  present.

Everyone involved had a great time and I’m sure everyone (both old and new) learnt plenty from Brett.

As described earlier, Brett is travelling the world as an AFL Ambassador promoting AFL football and the 2011 International Cup.
